The purpose of this lecture is to construct the concepts of the science of statistics and make the students understand the basic philosophy of it.

Measurement levels: Classifying, Ordering, Interval and Ratio. Population. Sample. Parameter. Statistics. Probability measure and its properties. Probabilty space. Probabilty distributions of random variables. Expected value. Central tendency measures. Variablity measures. Joint and marginal probability distributions. Independency. Conditional distributions. Some discrete theoretical distributions. Normal distribution. Standard normal distribution. Law of large numbers. Central limit theorem. Statistical estimation. Statistical hypothesis testing.
