Objectives of the Course
The objective of the lecture is to ensure that the students acquire the basic conceptual informations regarding the elder people and the old age that will guide their geriatric nursing practices and researches and comprehend the effect and importance of health policies and theories regarding the old age on geriatric nursing practices.

Learning Outcomes
1Able to improve the students’ knowledges on the basic concepts, standards and roles regarding the geriatric nursing to the expertise level
2Able to analyze the information that they obtained as regards to the national and international health policies on elder person and old age with a critical viewpoint by taking the ethical and scientific values into consideration according to their knowledges in the field of geriatric nursing
3Able to deepen their information as regards to identifying the elder person and their social, physical environment systematically at a level of expertise
4Able to develope practice plans directed at protection and maintenance of health of elder people and assessing the results
5Able to comprehend the interdisciplinary interactions by combining the conceptual information that they obtained regarding the old age theories with the information provided from different disciplines

Overview to geriatric nursing; demographic characteristics of elder people in the world and Turkey; national health policy and legal regulation; assessment of family, health status, home and environment of elderly; home care; aging theories; cultural effects in elderly; health prevention and promotion; special conditions and approachs in elderly; maintaining the safety of elderly, elderly/family education (basic principles and approaches)
