Objectives of the Course
The main objective of this course is to give basic knowledge on the organic agriculture together with it’s principles, to enable students on comprehension of the disease and pest management in coincidence of organic principles, and lead them to prepare projects on the organic cultivation of the selected culture plants

Learning Outcomes
1Gaining knowledge on the “organic agriculture” system and its principles
2Gaining knowledge on the organic production steps other than plant protection, such as cultivation, harvesting and packaging techniques.
3Gaining the ability for managing the diseases and pests during organic production, and the ability to assess the success of management.
4Gaining the ability to help the farmers who wish to begin organic agriculture by preparing packages of suggestions
5Having the oppurtunity to work in organic producing firms as production manager
6Having the oppurtunity to work in control and certification bodies as experts

Course Contents
*Definition of main production systems in world agriculture, principles of organic agriculture in comparison with other systems *Development of organic agriculture in the world and in Turkey, giving the most recent growing area and production statistics *Pest and disease management in organic agriculture in annual and perannual culture plants in accordance with related international regulations supported with examples from the practice. *Preparation of the organic production projects by the students in groups as home-work and pesentation of these works during the semester *Assessment of the success of these projects together with students that may be evaluated as the midterm exam .
