Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to provide the understanding and application of thermodynamic laws in to the engineering systems.

1Understanding of basic definitions and zeroth law of thermodynamics.
2Understanding of properties of pure substances, ideal gas equation of state and ability to use the solving of technical issues.
3Understanding of first law of thermodynamic and applying the first law of thermodynamic to the closed and control volumes.
4Understanding of energy transfer by heat, work and mass and ability to solve technical problems.
5Understanding of second law of thermodynamic and applying to the systems.
6Understanding of the basic knowledge on gas power refrigeration cycles and applying to the systems.
7Understanding of gas-vapor mixtures and air conditioning (climatization) processes and applying to the systems.

Course Contents
Basic concepts of thermodynamics, forms of energy, system and its properties, pressure and temperature concepts, first law of thermodynamics, phases of pure substances, phase changes processes, ideal gases, compressibility factor, first law of thermodynamics: application to closed and open systems, second law of thermodynamics, reversible and irreversible phase changes, Carnot cycle, heat engine, refrigerators, heat pumps, entropy, reversible steady-flow work, reversible work and irreversibility, gas power cycles, Otto ve Diesel cycles, refrigeration cycles, gas vapor mixtures, thermodynamic properties of water vapor and moist air, air conditioning processes.
