Objectives of the Course
This course aims to discuss the epistemic base that supports religion and politics in Turkish culture history and to analyze the texts that are witnessed the transition processes.

1To understand the epistemic structure of religion and politics and to make interpretations on this structure. (3, 6)
2To realize the changes in the texts those belong to the transition processes and to realize the effect of historical changes on religious thought and politics. (8, 12)
3Graduates will be able to adopt the structural and critical approach instead of illustrative and narrative approach. (14)

Course Contents
Turks Embracing Islam: First impressions, struggles and progress. Leading representatives and institutions. The characteristics and reflections of religious-political actions in Turkish culture that established a dialog with Islam. Ideas of al-Farabi on religion and politics. Ideas of Ebu Mansur Mâturîdî on reason, jurisprudence and politics. Reading the studies of Kutadgu Bilig. Inferences regarding the reflection of historical change on religious and political thoughts. The change and reorganization of religious and political reason during Seljuk period. Analysis of Siyasatnama of Nizam al-Mulk. Al-Ghazâlî's approach to religion-in-politics issues.
