General Description
History
The Department has started training within Ege University Izmir Ataturk School of Health in the 1998-1999 academic years. Education has been continuing in the Faculty of Health Sciences since 2015 and the first student intake in the Faculty of Health Sciences was realized in 2016 Midwifery European Union Directives (80/154/EEC-80/155/EEC) are applied in the department which also provides MA program.

Graduates who complete successfully the program are given Midwifery Undergraduate Certificate

Undergraduate Program; it is necessary to have high school or equivalent certificate and have enough points in university student selection exam
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Exemption exams are held for computer and foreign language courses at the beginning of each academic semester. Students who think that they provide learning outcomes for these courses have the right to take exams. Students who are successful in the exams are exempt from the relevant course.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Undergraduate Program conditional evaluation system; in order to complete all the courses available in program successfully it is necessary to have at least 2.00 weighted GPA over 4.00
Profile of The Programme
Midwifery undergraduate program is an education curriculum which is executed in order to train graduate Midwives. Objective of the Midwifery Department Undergraduate Program is to train contemporary midwives who have fundamental knowledge, skills and high self-esteem. This program includes compulsory courses about Midwifery profession and the general knowledge. In addition to compulsory courses in the curriculum there are elective courses for them to choose according to their preferences

Access to Further Studies
Midwifery graduate students who complete undergraduate training successfully can study post-graduate (MA) program provided that they have sufficient points in ALES and have adequate knowledge of foreign language
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Assessment and evaluation method is defined in detail in the Course Curriculum taking the Ege University Education Regulations and Guidelines for Assessment and Evaluation into consideration.
Graduation Requirements
In order to be graduated from Midwifery Department it is necessary: • to be a consultant for pregnant women including at least 100 prenatal examination, • to follow and take care of at least 40 pregnant women, • to deliver at least 40 case herself, • To take an active role in Breech Birth. If it is impossible to work on real life situation student should work on simulation, • to follow and take care of 40 pregnant women who are under risks during pregnancy, delivery or postnatal period, • to follow and take care of at least 100 puerperants and healthy newborn babies ( examination included), • To make an observation and take care of newborn babies who need special care including premature, post mature, low birth weighted and healthless babies.

Facilities
3 professor,4 associate professors,2 doctor lecturer and 12 research assistants are serving in the department Two skills lab sections (1 on Fundamental Principles and Applications Clinical Skills Laboratory and Laboratory of Obstetrics and Family Planning Counseling Skills) are available in the department. Ege University Faculty University Medical Faculty Hospital, the Health Ministry Education and Research Hospitals, State Hospitals and Maternal Hospitals, Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning Centers and local government owned health institutions are used as a practice area.
