Graduate School of Social Sciences - Radio Television and Cinema - Cinema -

General Description
Cinema Non-Thesis Master’s Program which works as a part of Ege University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Radio Television Cinema, started receiving students in 2011. With this program it is aimed to train communication specialists who have full knowledge of the concepts and theories on the field of cinema, and who are able to do scientific studies by evaluating the academic literature.
Qualification Awarded
The graduates that complete the program with all its requirements get “Non-Thesis Graduate Degree”.

Specific Admission Requirements
The applicants who hold a Bachelor's Degree and willing to enroll in the Master's programme may apply to the Directorate of the Graduate School with the documents: 1-Sufficient score (at least 55 out of 100) from the Academic Staff and Graduate Study Education Exam (ALES) conducted by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) or GRE Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score equivalent to ALES score of 55. 2-English proficiency (at least 70 out of 100 from the Profiency Exam conducted by Ege University Foreign Language Department, or at least 50 out of 100 from YDS (Foreign Language Examination conducted by OSYM) or TOEFL or IELTS score equivalent to YDS score of 50. The candidates fulfilling the criteria outlined above are invited to interwiev. The assessment for admission to masters programs is based on: 50% of ALES, 25% of academic success in the undergraduate programme (cumulative grade point average (CGPA) ) and 25% of interview grade. The required minimum interview grade is 50 out of 100. The candidates having an assessed score of 60 at least are accepted into the Master's programme. The results of the evaluation are announced by the Directorate of Graduate School.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. A student who is currently enrolled in a Master's Degree programme in the same discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents before the deadline, may transfer to the Master's Programme at EGE University upon the recommendation of the department administration and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. The decision taken will also include eligibility for exemption from some course requirements of the graduate program. Students who transfer from another university must be successful in the EGE University English Proficiency Exam or in an equivalent English examination. Recognition of priornon-formal and in-formal earning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University is not an exception to this.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The purpose of Master without thesis is to inform student with the relavant vocational information, ands how how to use these information in practice. This program can be provided as day-evening education, e-learning or mixed type. This program is composed of 90 ECTS with 10 courses at least, of which is not less than 30 local credits, and term project. Term project is evaluated as successful or failed. Students have to register for term project in the relevant semester and submit a written report at the end of the semester. A proficiency exam can be made at the end of Master without thesis program, with the institute council’s suggestion and Senate approval. Terms for proficiency for graduation comprises of completing all the courses successfully having 2.00 GPA (Grade Point Average) over 4.00 and completing term project successfully.
Profile of The Programme
Cinema Without Thesis master’s program trains communication specialists, who have a full knowledge of the academic literature, and the concepts and theories about the field of Cinema; produce scientific studies that can shed light on the fields about communication and especially to the subjects about Cinema; who can design and interpret scientific researches and seize the importance of lifelong learning and ethical values at the same time.

Access to Further Studies
According to the third provisional clause of Graduate Education Legislation which is published in Resmî Gazete in 1/7/1996, students who have registered to non-thesis graduate programs before the date 6/2/2013, has the same rights with the graduates of graduate programs with thesis in the application of PhD programs. For he students who have registered to non-thesis graduate programs before the date 6/2/2013, the requirements for the PhD program is identified by the institute board, depending on the suggestion of departmental council. The students who have registered after this date has no right for application.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade, the final examination grade and/or evaluation of final project, with the contributions of 40% and 60%, respectively. To pass any course, a Master's student must receive at least 70 out of 100. Students must repeat courses they have failed or may substitute courses the Department accepts as equivalent. The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description”.

Within the Department of Radio Television Cinema there are 8 professors, 4 associate professors, 9 assistant professors, 17 research assistants and 1 specialist are working in the academic staff. Also there are 1 digital editing unit, 1 photo lab and studio shooting within the Department.
