Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to gain knowledge of basic organic chemistry. For this purpose, topics required for pharmaceutical sciences education is examined in detail during organic chemistry course.

1Being able to understand the basic principles of organic chemistry.
2Capable of understanding the basic chemical principles and intermolecular forces playing a role in drug effect.
3Being able to understand the general principles and IUPAC rules for naming chemical structures.
4Being able to recognise functional groups, naming principles chemical and physicochemical properties and general synthesis methods.
5Being able to understand synthetic methods that allows conversion of functional groups with each other and capable of applying this knowledge in general synthesis methods.
6Being able to recognize heterocyclic compounds and understand naming principles.
7Being able to learn the basic principles of stereochemistry and understand the importance in drug effect.

Course Contents
Basic principles of organic chemistry, Naming organic compounds, Chemistry of functional groups, Introduction to heterocyclic chemistry, Basic stereochemistry, Chemical bonds, polar covalent bonds, hybridization and geometry of carbon bonds, drawing chemical structures, introduction to naming compounds, Naming, preparing, properties and identification methods of functional groups (alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatization and benzene, halogenated organic compounds, alcohols, phenols, ethers, aldehydes and ketones, caboxylic acids, caboxylic acid derivatives and amines), Naming polycarboxylic and heterocyclic compounds , Stereochemistry (conformations of alkanes, geometric isomerism and E/Z system, chirality, optical activity, specific rotation, configuration, R/S system, enantiomers and diastereomers) .
