Objectives of the Course
Virology is an area that is undergoing rapid expansion. They were studied because they were found to be agent of some of the most important diseases of plants and animals including human. Developing methods for cell culture, virus purification and live vaccines, virology made major contributions to the field of cell and molecular biology and molecular genetics, for example capping and polyadenilation of mRNA, reverse transcriptions, cellular oncogenes, introns, splicing of RNA transcripts etc. With these in mind, the aim of the course is to give some detailed information about classification of viruses, bacteriophages, viral diseases, viroid and prion.

Learning Outcomes
1To obtain basic concepts used in viral structure and classification.
2To comprehend their knowledge about the importance of application area of vıruses in applied sciences by understanding viral replication.
3To adapt knowledge of virus concept to the problems of industry, agriculture, health and environment
4To learn viral and sub-viral disaese to harmful to all living cell.
5To understand viruses as a model organisms in basic and applied sciences
6Making students follow current developments in this field of research by reading/discussing new research papers.
7Being able to share information about viral diseases by oral and written language
8To understand the relations between experimental logic, analytical thinking, quantitative analysis and problem solving.
9To learn some basic concepts about viral vaccines and their production.

The structure of virus particules,classification of viruses,genome replication in RNA and DNA viruses,Bacteriphages (T4, T7, Mu, Lambda, MS2), Archaephages, Cyanophages, TMV,Influenza,Tumor viruses, Retroviruses,HepaDNA viruses,Viroid and Prion diseases.
