Objectives of the Course
The overall goal of this course is to provide theoretical knowledge and practical training in fishing gear design and construction techniques. A holistic view is taken of fishing technology. The act of fishing is viewed as the an integrated process where due consideration must be taken of the design and materials used to produce the fishing gear, fishing gear, the biology and behaviour of the fish being caught, fish schools and finally the environmental conditions on the fishing grounds. In this course, the students will learn how to seek solutions to many problems which arise in the activities of a fisherman, fishing technologists, fishery managers by apply some theoretical and practical ways.

Learning Outcomes
1The design, construction techniques and materials used in the making the nets and ropes
2Net making machine for knotted and knotless webbing and its technologies
3Selecting fishing gear to fishery resource data for the given area
4Determining optimal technical parameters for the fishing gear, taking into account the characteristics of the area and type of catch
5Designing fishing gear and calculating the quality and quantity of the materials required for its construction and rigging
6To determine the best pattern of operation for fishing gear under various conditions such as towing speed, fishing position, rigging details, etc
7Demonstrating possibilities for improvements and implementing them in existing fishing gear used in a given fishing area
8Modifying traditional fishing gear for operational under different conditions
9The main principles and practical applications of fishing net making, net braiding, joining, net mending and net cutting
10Ability of understand and drawing of technical plans of fishing gear design
11Making model fishing gear by similarity laws

Course Contents
The materials used in the making of the fishing gear, fishing net factories and manufacturing technologies, the main ratio and calculations used in the rigging of the fishing gear, net cutting and calculations of net cutting, fishing gear design and construction, fishing gear mending and braiding, the main forces acting on fishing gear, technical plans of fishing gear and drawing rules and introduction of model fishing gear plan and practical applications.
