Objectives of the Course
In this lesson, the goal is to teach students ecosystem, flora, vegetation, community, definitions used in biodiversity, the causes of the richness and diversity of the flora of Turkey, formation of flora and vegetation, origins (sources) of the flora of Turkey, the effects of climatic changes seen during geological periods on the formation of the flora of Turkey, general characteristics and taxon numbers of the flora of Turkey in terms of the plant groups, endemism and endemics of Turkey, and the general charactersitics of cosmopolitan plants.

2To establish the association between the general climatic characteristics of phytogeographic regions and biodiversity in these regions
3To teach the effects of climatic changes seen during geological periods on the formation of present flora of Turkey and the origins of the flora of Turkey

5To establish an association between several (different) factors and the general characteristics of cosmopolitan and endemic taxa and the distribution areas of endemics in Turkey

2An overview of biodiversity in Turkey, the causes of the richness and diversity of the flora of Turkey and the history of botanic studies in Turkey
3The causes of the richness the flora of Turkey, general types of climate in Turkey, phytogeographic regions in Turkey and their characteristics
4Brief information on the geography of Turkey (geographical formations, precipitation regimes, topography, Mediterranean bioclimatic zones
5Formation of the flora and vegetation (concepts (terms) of migration, germination, ecesis, competition, climax and succession), climatic changes seen during geological periods and their effects on the flora of Turkey, the effects of biotic factors (grazing, cutting, burning) on the formation of flora and vegetation
6Paleogeography and the theory of continental drift, the origins (sources) of the flora of Turkey
7Characteristics of Arctotertiary flora and mesogen flora and their effects on the diversity of the flora of Turkey
8Midterm
9General characteristics and the taxon numbers of the flora of Turkey in terms of plant groups, characteristics of larger families belonging to monocots and dicots, important species in Gymnosperm and Angiosperms and their species (strain) numbers
10Plants of different habitats, Psammophytes, halophytes, litophytes and Casmophytes, important plant taxa representing the forests of Turkey
11Plants of Turkey having special characteristics (status, condition) (edible plants, spice plants, industrial plants, plants used as food sources and plants used in medicine (health)
12Endemism and the endemics of Turkey, causes of the narrow distribution of endemic species; concepts of paleoendemic, şizoendemic, patroendemic and apoendemic
13Habitats where endemic plant species are mostly seen, endemism in Turkey and endemic plants, the numbers of endemic species in terms of plant groups
14Families with the largest numbers of endemic species, endemic species with large numbers of endemic strains
15Endemism in the flora regions (sections) of Turkey; important regions of Turkey in terms of endemic plants; cosmopolitan areas and cosmopolitan plants
