The aim of the course is to analyze and understand the issues related to water and wastewater treatment

Learning Outcomes
1Ability to master the principles of waste treatment systems for the removal of suspended solids, colloids, dissolved and particulate organic matter, nutrients, pathogens and toxic substances.
2Ability to apply the knowledge gained from the course to obtain the optimal treatment for municipal & industrial wastewater
3Ability to characterize waste and prescribe the type of treatment that will be required to meet government standards for proper management and disposal.
4Ability to apply chemical and microbiological knowledge and skills to maintain proper water and wastewater plant operations
5be able to estimate or measure the pollution load of wastewater produced in an area or from a particular activity
6be able to understand the role, the kinetics and the factors affecting the performance of microorganisms in a particular biological treatment process
7be able to recognize the environmental impact of wastewater discharge to the environment

Course Contents
Topics covered include physical, chemical and biological properties of wastewater and its physical, chemical and biological treatment. In addition, it will be discussed the advantages, disadvantages and problems associated with each of the treatment processes and provided practical experience in the analysis of waste and wastewater characteristics
