Objectives of the Course
• To understand oil formation and how it is extracted from the ground, the various processes used to move it on to the final product • An overview is given for the main oil products: combustion fuels, lubricating oils • Know the primary raw materials for petrochemicals, treatment processes and properties. • Know the hydrocarbon intermediates (secondary raw materials) for the production of petrochemicals • Know the extraction and uses of non-hydrocarbon intermediates • Describe petrochemicals based on methane, ethane and higher paraffins, olefins and diolefins, benzene, toluene and xylene.

1To give the student a short and general introduction to petroleum- and process technology
2Explaining the whole chemical process from raw material to product by simple flow charts in petrochemical industry.
3Understanding the methods used for the conversion of raw materials or interediates to valuable products and ability choose most suitable method in petrochemical industry.
4To insight petrochemical industry in Turkey and world.

Course Contents
Crude oil composition, recovery, refining, oil products. Raw materials and intermediates for petrochemicals, production of petrochemicals from methane, ethylene, propylene, n-butene, benzene, toluene and xylene.
