Objectives of the Course
This course aims at analyzing the themes and issues belong to culture and society from a broader perspective with a multidisciplinary approach which embodies different theories and methods of various disciplines of social science. In this respect, such different disciplines like communication and media studies, history, literature, sociology, politics and international relations will be covered in an interdisciplinary structure of cultural studies. As the nature of this course, it evaluates culture beyond as a concept that belongs to high and eminent ones which covers and focuses on every variable, dynamic and daily practice of all classes and groups in a society. In this context particularly popular and mass culture are considered as a new area of power struggle in a globalized world. Apart from the theoretical concepts and approaches, the course aims to provide a ground for analyzing (social) media, film, music and cartoons as the primary materials.
