Objectives of the Course
The main purpose of this course is to provide an objective perspective to the students about Europe. It is NOT designed in a descriptive style, focusing counties one by one. The historical and geographical basis of the Western world as a cultural source area dominating and shaping our understanding and perspectives on today’s world will be focused. Various definitions of Europe will be discussed. Questions such as “What are the main values and understanding what “makes” Europe?”, “How and where has the European culture expanded?”, “Today, can we mention a one single Europe?” will motivate the course’s discussions. The place of Turkey on the European map will also be emphasized according to different criteria.
