Objectives of the Course
Communication at sea lesson is essential importance for fisheries faculty students in order to go forward to coastal captainship formation. During the course, the students learn fundamental VHF R/Telephone and GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) concepts and methods. The students aim to gain acknowledgement about VHF and GMDSS systems if they will attempt to examination for VHF certificate program which made by Turkish radio general directorship.

Course Contents
In this course following subjects are covered; VHF (Very High Frequency) R/Telephone communications, VHF-Dsc (Digital Selective Calling) communications, introduction to VHF, international VHF R/Telephone channels, national regulations in relation to VHF, distance of VHF communications, introduction to Turkish coastal stations, communications from ship to ship and ship to coast, distress-security-urgency communications, introduce to GMDSS, sea areas of GMDSS, Dsc communications on VHF frequencies, Epirbs, Inmarsat, Cospas-Sarsat satellites, Radio transponders (SART), Navtex broadcasts, etc.
