Objectives of the Course
The aim of this course is to teach the scope of biotechnology, and areas that microalgae are used along with usage of biotechnological methods in their production.

1To understand basic culture principles of microalgae
2To understand nutritional and environmental requirement of microalgae
3To understand difference between indoor and outdoor microalgae
4To prepare a medium proper to target species and setup an culture system
5To understand management of large-scale phototrophic culture systems
6To understand growth limiting factors large-scale outdoor phototrophic cultures and optimizing yields

Course Contents
The scope of biotechnology, importance, and current practices are initially described. Algal culture systems and culture techniques of microalgae, physico-chemical factors affecting biomass production, harvesting of microalgae, chemicals derived algal biomass.Commercial seaweeds and farming.
