Objectives of the Course
Being able to define the social function of education as a social institution and to analyze its relationship with other social institutions. Analyzing the relationship between the institution of education and social mobility in a national and internation scale and being able to develop a critical perspective in this regard.

Course Contents
In this course the sociological perspective on education; the relationship between culture, education and social stratification will be assessed in the light of various theories of sociology. Regarding the concept of education, the perspectives of educational sciences and sociology will be distinguished and philosophies of different educational schools will be briefly covered. Functionalist sociological perspective on education will be analyzed and criticized using the theoretical contributions of Critical Thinkers.
