Objectives of the Course
This course is designed as an introduction to semiotics. Saussure and his followers have asserted that; a sign must consist of two parts: the signifier and the signified. Semiotics is the study of meaning occur in language, pictures, performance and other forms of expression. The semiotic approach as the study of signs, signification and signifying systems, film and television is a very contemporary discipline. Films and TV serials, series, sit-coms do manage to communicate meaning in two different manners, denotatively and connotatively.

Course Contents
During the course each film will be "read", using semiotics techniques of analysis. We can only understand what films and TV programs mean by finding out how they mean and analysing the way in which they work. The course’s goal is to present students how things come to mean in films and TV programs and how we read them in semiotic methods.
