General Description
History
The School of Fashion and Design was established in 2011. Prof.Dr. Ziynet Öndoğan is founding director of school of Fashion and Design. Also, the Department of Fashion Design was established in 2018. In the world, Fashion Design education has been given as a separate education for approximately 180 years at faculty or college level (London College of Fashion in England, Lim College and Parsons School of Design in USA, Istituto Marangoni in Italy, etc.). In Turkey all Fashion and Design departments is located as a department of college or faculties in universities. Unlike other universities in Turkey, Ege University School of Fashion and Design is creating innovative and functional approach for our university and our country with it's training. Therefore, Ege University School of Fashion and Design provides many advantages to its graduates in terms of sector requirements compared to other Fashion Design departments. The education language of department is Turkish. The Department of Fashion Design accept of students according to the Equal Weight score in the university exam. The department received its first students in the 2019-2020 Academic Year. The private sector gives great support to the School of Fashion and Design. The workshops and laboratories of the School of Fashion and Design were established with the project of "Young Fashion Designers Make İzmir the Capital of Fashion" supported by the İzmir Development Agency. Ege Ready-to-Wear Manufacturers and Apparel Exporters Union with Ege Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Union has been take part as co-financing in the Project. The aim of the department is to train of fashion designers who can make, produce and sell original designs. Also, one of the main targets of the department is to enable students to prepare their design works in a way that they can be transformed into commercial collections. The vision of the department; to realize the cooperation of science and art, to create educational quality which have creative and innovative approaches, to become an international educational institution in the field of fashion and design.

Graduates of the Department of Fashion Design have the title of “Fashion Designer".

Specific Admission Requirements
In the Department of Fashion Design, education is carried out theoretically and practically. Placement is made according to the University Exam and Equal Weight Score. The department student quota is 30.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
In the department of Fashion Design the formal education is provided. With theoretical and practical training in the department, students who interested in design developes their design abilities, knowledges, imaginations, communication and marketing skills. In the department, courses are given as theoretical and practical. Applied courses are given in the laboratories and workshops. Theoretically given vocational courses are also giving to the students in laboratories and workshops. The aim of the trainings; to enable students to compare their practical and theoretical knowledge, to improve their manual skills and to strengthen teamwork. Social lessons are given theoretically. However, social lessons based on human relations are given both of theoretical and practical. During the education, professional and social projects are given to the students. Thus, it is aimed to increase the social responsibility awareness of the students by establishing, controlling, teamwork and job analysis.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students who wish to make register to Fashion Design department should complete secondary education program. Students are placed in the Department of Fashion Design by the Higher Education Institution if they provide the required base score according to the Equal Weight score at the university examination.
Profile of The Programme
The department's student quota is 30. The students of department come from regular and vocational high school graduates. The department's theoretical and practical courses are given at the School of Fashion and Design. The workshops and laboratories of the School of Fashion and Design were established with the project of "Young Fashion Designers Make İzmir the Capital of Fashion" supported by the İzmir Development Agency. The formal education is provided in the department. At the end of the 6th semester, students do their internship in the private sector either in Turkey or abroad according to the program to be prepared by the school of Fashion and Design.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates of the department can be employed especially in the private sector. In the fashion and apparel industry, design has the highest importance in the field of international competition. This situation also needs qualified person who has design ability and experienced. Because of that reason fashion design education is so important in the international academic and private sector world. Our graduates; – As a designer in the fashion houses – As a fashion designer in the design, product development, modeling, export, marketing, brand management and customer relations departments of garment companies In the design departments of Print Workshops – In departments of product and costume designs in the relevant ministries – As an academician in related departments of universities – As a visual presentation and design specialist in stores – As a fashion editor in fashion magazines – In the fashion photography studios – As a trend, image and style consultant in related sectors – As a Costume and accessory designer in the theater, cinema and television sectors and – Will be able to work in their own businesses by creating their own brands.
Access to Further Studies
Graduates of the department can do postgraduate education in their own fields or related departments if they wish. However, in order to graduate, the diploma grades must be above the grade determined by the Institute.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
In the assessment and evaluation system of the program; for each course has a midterm, a final exam and a make-up exams. In some courses projects are given in addition to the exams. The examinations of the theoretical courses are made written. However the examinations of the practical courses are made oral. Students who continue of during the semester to the practice courses are taken to oral examination from the practice courses at the end of semester. Students who had succesful from practice exam are qualify to enter the final exam at the end of semester. Students who had failed from practice exam can not enter the final exam at the end of semester. They have to continue again to the same course next year. Contribution of midterm exam of success grade is 40%, contribution of final exam of success grade is 60%. But it can change according to the course. The attendance requirement for applied courses is 80% and the attendance for theoretical courses is 70%. Students who are absent from a course must give the same course next year. At the end of an academic year (Fall + Spring), students with a weighted grade point average of less than 1.8 according to the 4-point system cannot take any course from upper class in the next semester.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the department, students have to attend all of the courses, and also must be “successful”. In addition students at the end of 6th semester, must be complete the “20” working days mandatory industry internship that needed for their training, and should be "successful" from internship exam. Students who successfully completed all the courses and internships at the end of eight “8” semesters are entitled to get a diploma.

Facilities
Within the School of Fashion and Design; – Computer Aided Design Laboratory – Draping Workshop – Sewing Workshop – Mold Preparation Workshop – With Basic Art Workshop – Decoration Workshop – Photography Workshop – Classrooms are located. There are computers, sewing machines, drawing tables and tools and equipment for each student in the workshops. 2To create commercial collections with qualified and original designs with the harmony of colors, patterns, fabrics and accessories that can give direction to fashion in ready-made clothing sector.
