General Description
History
Ege University Textile Engineering Department is founded at early 1960s by the support of German Federal Republic technical education aiding project and the kernel of our department was established at 10.09.1966 under the name of İzmir Textile Technical Vocational School. Since the textile industry has a huge production variety, it’s not possible to teach and to learn all about textile with in 4 years of education period. Therefore, after fulfilling textile fundamental lectures with in 2 years of education and having comprehensive orientation training at our textile pilot mills at the end of these two years, Ege University Textile Engineering students are selecting an option according to their interests and abilities. These options are: 1) TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY: Involving different types of spinning technology and machines, knitting technology and machines, weaving technology and machines, nonwoven technology and machines, fabric construction and physical textile testing and technical textiles. 2) TEXTILE CHEMISTRY and TEXTILE FINISHING: Involving finishing machines, textile chemistry, pre-finishing, dying-printing, finishing processes, chemical fibers and chemical textile testing, nonwoven technology and technical textiles. 3) APPAREL: Involving apparel machines, clothing pattern, clothing production, production application, organization programming, quality control and technical textiles. After first two years of education, students are having an intensive lecture program of the options they belong to with in the next two years. In this way, young textile engineers become more equipped graduates and they accommodate to their workplace easier.
Qualification Awarded
The Bachelor's Degree in Textile Enginering ( first cycle in Textile Enginering) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum. Furthermore, it is specified on the certificate which option they graduated from such as; “Textile Technology”, “Textile Chemistry and Finishing” or “Apparel”.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Profile of The Programme
You can find below some information about Ege University Textile Engineering Department which is the first institution that gives textile education in Turkey: 1) By the help of LLP-ERASMUS program, student and lecturer exchanges between Ege University Textile Engineering Department and many different universities in Europe are carrying out so effectively. Ege University Textile Engineering Department is holding LLP-ERASMUS program agreements between 15 different universities. 2) An application (pilot) mill which has 4500 m2 closed area is located at Ege University Textile Engineering Department. It is an application center consists of seven different units. Many different textile production tools, instruments and machines enable to hold a production at an industrial scale. 3) Ege University Textile Engineering Department is a member of AUTEX (Association of Universities for Textile). 4) İzmir International Apparel Symposium which is carried out every three years by Ege University Textile Engineering Department, is one of the most important activity of late years in the world. 5) “TEKSTİL ve KONFEKSİYON” journal which has been publishing since 1991 is certified by TUBITAK and has a reviewed journal status. It contains scientific researches on textile and apparel. Furthermore, since 2008 it has been located in ISI Master Journal List and Science Citiation Index – Expanded. 6) The aims of Ege Textile Society (ETT) which is established in 24.04.2001 are: - to improve the quality of education at E.U. Textile Engineering Department, - to generate a synergy between E.U. Textile Engineering students and graduates and to provide an information exchange, - to improve the adaptation of students for the business life, - improving the social life and personal development of the members, - to improve the creativity, cooperation, sharing and taking responsibility for the members.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
E.U. Textile Engineering graduates have the top priority for the employment by textile factories, research institutions and universities all over the Turkey. Our graduates take in charge at textile factories (production, quality assurance, research-development, management, marketing, purchasing, planning, exportation, etc.), at companies which manufacture every forms of textile materials (fiber, yarn, fabric, garment product), accessories, textile machines, chemical pigments, at foreign company and foreign brand representations, at consultancy companies (in every position), at research institutions and laboratories successfully.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The evaluation of the students is performed by the Ege University Education Regulations issued at 2009. Examinations consist of one midterm and one final exam. Quizzes, homework, projects and laboratory reports are also considered to the marking process. The way of affecting every marking criterion written above to the marking process is determined by the lecturer in black and white and verbally at the beginning of the period. Moreover the “Lecture Accreditation Recognition Forms” are published on the website of textile department. Marking evaluation process also take place in these forms.

Facilities
An application (pilot) mill which has 4500 m2 closed area is located at Ege University Textile Engineering Department. It is an application center consists of seven different units, such as: cotton spinning, woolen spinning, weaving preparation and weaving, knitting, nonwoven, textile finishing and apparel. These production instruments take place in these mills are used for student trainings, lecture applications and for research and development studies. By the contribution of textile machine manufacturers and the industrialists we have the chance to modernize our machinery consistently. Furthermore, students have the chance to work with the latest and the most technological frames and they have the chance to graduate with such experience. In our Physical Textile Testing Laboratories there are existed many testing instruments which can measure the physical properties of every textile materials from fiber to fabric. Physical Textile Testing lecture applications, scientific researches, student thesis and industrial analyses are all performed in these Physical Testing Laboratories. In our Chemical Textile Testing Laboratories there are also existed many testing instruments which can measure the chemical properties of every textile materials from fiber to fabric and cloth. These Chemical Laboratories consist of 4 departments. Chemical Textile Testing lecture applications, scientific researches, student thesis and industrial analyses are all performed in these Chemical Testing Laboratories. In our textile application mills there are 4 finishing laboratories also. In addition to finishing lecture applications, all kind of measurements and tests for scientific researches and analyses are performed in these laboratories.

5The skill of identifying, formulating and solving the textile engineering problems and being able to apply appropriate analyzing and modeling techniques for this purpose.
