General Description
History
Department of Dairy Technology was founded as a chair of Dairy Technology in 1958 within the constitution of Faculty of Agriculture, which is one of the first founded faculties of Ege University, which was established in 1955. Department of Dairy Technology is one of two departments that educate engineer to dairy industry in Turkey. Instruction and education programme of Department of Dairy Technology, that train students at licence, master and doctorate degree, provide enough technical information and rigging in the field of increasing milk production, keeping quality of milk and dairy products, establishment and organization of dairy plants and utilization of dairy wastes.
Qualification Awarded
The Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Engineering-Dairy Technology ( first cycle in Agricultural Engineering-Dairy Technology) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements
The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

The aim of the program is to educate engineers who can apply modern technology, orient manufacturers and industry companies, analyze problems in dairy industry and can solve them by an scientific way, have knowledge and experience to manufacture safety and high-quality dairy products, assimilate ethic values, innovator, progressive and researcher.

Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
The way of assessment and grading of every course was identified in “Individual Course Description” section in detail. Assessment of grade is done according to the relative system. Assessments of the examinations are applied according to the 21st item of Ege University Education-Instruction Regulations and 11th item of Ege University Faculty of Agriculture Education-Instruction Directives. The success grade of a couse is calculated as the sum of 40% of midterm examination or other education activities and 60% of final examination. Midterm examination grade and other activities of the students, who are unsuccessful in practical courses and practical examinations, are not taken in consideration. These students cannot participate in final examinations, they are declared as unsuccessful and their grades are evaluated as FF (without continuity).

Facilities
Department has 5 laboratories where physical, chemical and microbiological researches and student applications take place in. Department has two classrooms with air conditioner and projector and also a pilot plant that provides students to observe the manufacture of milk and dairy products closely.

1Having proficient sub-knowledge about math, science, agricultural engineering and dairy technology; ability to use theoretical and practical knowledge belongs to these scientific fields for engineering solutions.
2Ability to identify, formulate and solve subject-related problems; ability to select and apply appropriate methods and modeling techniques for this purpose.
