General Description
History
Turkish Language and Literature Department of Ege University, which is one of four department of recent Faculty of Literature established as a Faculty of Social Sciene in 1976, was founded under the presidency of deceased Prof. Dr. Selahattin Olcay. Dr.Tunca Kortantamer, Dr. Güler Güven, Dr. Fuat Bozkurt, Ö. Faruk Huyugüzel, Şevket Toker and Kemal Yüce began their career as an assistant near Selahattin Olcay that day in department. The department, which took students in the same year, began to form its staff soon and gave first graduates in 1980. Apart from Prof. Dr. Harun Tolasa, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akalın, Prof. Dr. Tunca Kortantamer, Dr. Güler Güven, Dr. Fares Hariri who are not with us, Prof. Dr. Fuat Bozkurt, Prof. Dr. Halil Ersoylu, Prof. Dr. Fikret Türkmen, Prof. Dr. Günay Karaağaç, Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Huyugüzel, Prof. Dr. Rıza Filizok, Prof. Dr. Metin Ekici, Prof. Dr. Kamil Veliyev (Azerbaijan), Prof. Dr. Gurbandurdu Geldiyev (Turkmenistan), Prof. Dr. Hayati Develi, Prof. Dr. Nezahat Öztekin, Prof. Dr. Atabey Kılıç, Oya Adalı, Dr. Nazım Muradov, Dr. Mustafa Aksoy, Dr. Ayşen Uslu and Bayram Orak have worked in different kinds of term and different hours of work in the department until today. Also, 33 annual department stil carrying out teching in undergraduate, master and doctorate programs has a national refereed journal which is published by the department.

The Bachelor's Degree in Turkish Language and Literature Department ( first cycle in Turkish Language and Literature Department ) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum

Specific Admission Requirements
The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Profile of The Programme
Ege University Turkish Language and Literature Department, which has been educating since 1976, has given education in the department branches of Old Turkic Language, Old Turkic Literature, New Turkic Literature, New Turkic Language, Turkic Dialects and Literatures, Folklore. objective of course is to raise a qualified individual who has an ability of researching in the fields of Turkic Language, Literature, Folklore and Culture, to make different research and investigations and introduce them as a means of publication, conferences and seminars etc. Informations about basic literary authors and their masterpieces which have been placed in the development line of Turkic written language from beginning until today are given in the courses given according to subjects of branches in the department, and examples from historical and contemporary Turkic dialects written with different kinds of alphabets are introduced. thus, language and literature examples of Turkish societies living out of Turkey are tackled, as well.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduate students have opportunities for working in different kinds of academic fields in universities as "Turkic Language Lecturer", "Research Assistant" and " Turkic Language Specialist".also, they can find opportunity of working in government foundations like ministry of public education, Ministry of Culture and TRT as well as private institutions in the area of publication and advertisement
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.

Facilities
In the department there are 11 academic members, 1 lecturer and 5 research assistants There are 2 classrooms; one of them is 100 persons capacity and the other one is 50 persons capacity.There are computers and projection machines in both classrooms; besides there is one smart board in one classroom. In the department there is also a rich archive-seminarlibrary which is composed of donation books and as well as undergraduate students, especially postgraduate students benefit from this library. also, in 2007 the archive of author and intellectual Hüseyinzade Ali Turan was donated to our department and presented to researchers' interests.

1The skill of explaining old Turkish geograph, which is the placement of first examples of Turkic language, up to the relationship with neighbor cultures
2The skill of reading written and published texts which were written in writing systems and alphabets used for Turkic language during history.
3The skill of compreheding the placement of Turkic language among world’s language according to language families with its structural features.
4The skill of analysing Turkic language knowledge in levels of phonetic, morph, syntax, semantic and vocabulary as historical-comparing as a means of benefiting from general philology procedures and rules.
5The skill of analysing historical dialects of Turkic language ( Gokturk, Uyghur, Karahanid, Khorezm, Kipchak, Chagatay and Otoman) via literary texts.
6The skill of analysing contemporary Turkic dialects (Turkey Turkic, Azerbaijan Turkic, The Uzbek language, Crimean Tatar, Kazan Tatar) which were improved in the late XIX century and beginning of XX. century in the act of philological materials based on written texts
7The skill of analysing borrowing elements, which were formed with historical and contemporary neighbor relations of Turkic language, with phonetic, morph and emantic levels.
8The skill of following bibliography of Turkic language and literature analysis spread around the world according to countries and equals.
