General Description
History
Art History Department of Ege University, Founded in 1980 , began teaching in 1981 and gave its first graduates in 1985.
Qualification Awarded
The Bachelor's Degree in Art History ( first cycle in Art History ) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum

Specific Admission Requirements
The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Profile of The Programme
Art History Department is one of the twelve section of Ege University Faculty of Letters. There are three divisions within the Department: Department of Turkish-Islamic Art , Department of Byzantine Art and Western Art and Contemporary Art Department.Learning time is 4 years.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Graduates can get the task of Archaeology and Ethnography museums, have completed the required teacher formations, high school teacher of art history can be. Graduates who know a foreign language, "Counseling certificate" subject to get employed as a tourism guide.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Exams, according to the system in force at the Ege University over 100 letters and numerically evaluated. Weighted average of the midterm exams 40% of the average effect of the year is calculated as 60% in the final examination. To be successful in any course should attach the weighted average 60% .

1To have brief knowledge on essential problems of Art History and ability of applying them to contemporary problems.
2To have essential knowledge on various branches of art; cover the various areas of human activities in terms of art history and improve the ability to describe them.
3To be learned, scholarly, conscious and have logical opinions on various areas of art and about the artistic activities of various cultures.
4To realize the importance and necessity of listening to and discussion with others on art history subjects and fulfill the necessities for dialogue.
5To make connections between the past and today by examining the contemporary problems.
6To comprehend the problems rapidly other than art history.
7To be able to state opinions either written or orally.
8To acquire esthetical and moral sensitivities.

10To be able to characterize the artworks making connections between the original essences and cultural environment and the life and mentality of the past.

12To be able to put forth the prejudgments, the indefinite assumptions, the situated but unfounded estimations which were accomplished about cultural works previously.
13To be able to put forth the evolutions the civilizations came through within themselves andthroughout the historical process and the influences they caused on these cultural assets.
14To be able to identify the general features of the period and make connections among different works of art referring to the original essences.
15To be able to draw the plan of a work of art, the cross-section or the analytical projection of the ornamentation on it by using the universal drawing techniques and equipments.
16To be able to apply the techniques and skills on field learned in removing the works from underground.
17To be able to read the inscriptions on cultural assets of different languages or to analyse them by getting assistance from different fields.
18To be able to put in use the scientific approaches attained in conservation and restoration of the cultural assets in accordance with modern necessities.
19For any subject, from the knowledge attained to be able to choose and put forth what is related with it.
20To be able to search and put in use the modern methods for the exhibition of works of art in stages like museums.

22Learning how to use time properly by specifying the priorities.
