General Description
History
Department of Public Relations and Publicity has been established in 1989 due to the increasement of demand for laborforce with academic education in this field. The department gives education on the major disciplines of; public relations, corporate communications, interpersonal communication and research methods.
Qualification Awarded
The Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and Publicity (first cycle in Public Relations and Publicity) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum.

Specific Admission Requirements
The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Profile of The Programme
The programme educates versatile PR practitioners with the knowledge, skills, ability and experience, who can perform in the field of public relations and publicity. People who complement to programme have the ability to manage interpersonal and corporate communication processes, internalize the values of communication ethics, are aware of the changes and developments in the occupation in both national and international platforms, have the skills to adapt these to the field, have the necessary knowledge on information communcation technologies and have the ability of contemporary and analytical thinking.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Students who graduate from this programme can work both in public and private sectors in the areas of communication, media, PR, customer relations and corporate relation as PR and communication experts.
Access to Further Studies
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
Methods for measuring and evaluating the lectures within the programme are highlighted in the educational plans which have been prepared by the professors who teach the lectures.

Facilities
Department of Public Relations and Publicity contains 4 major disciplines; public relations, corporate communication, interpersonal communication and research methods. 10 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, 4 Research Assistants and 2 Research Assistants who have been charged from other universities with the 35th provision officiate in the department. In the Department of Public Relations and Publicity, importance is given to practical work, as well as theoretical education. Before their graduation, each student must be involved in at least four project work. In this context, students get the chance of attending many national/ international contests with their projects and achieve various success from these. Via the organizations prepared by the student communities which operate within the department (“PRatik Public Relations Community”, "Young Ege" “Career Community”, ect.), education process is supported by the invited speakers and panels, which enable students to grow as verstaile people. Graduates of the department get to work in both public and private sectors. Graduates work in public relations departments which at the present day, almost every organization has within. As well as Public Relations Departments, graduates are able to establish and operate Public Relations offices and advertisement agencies, they get to work in advertisement agencies and advert-advertisement services of newspapers.

Key Learning Outcomes
1Implementing the knowledge on fields such as; communication science, business management, marketing / marketing communications, sociology, organizational psychology, economy, political science, information communication technologies, law, research-statistics, cultural studies ect. to the discipline of public relations.
2Understanding the importance of fundamental concepts of public relations, related disciplines and comprehending the relations between the disciplines.
3Being able to research, plan, implement and audit the processes about public relations and publicity.
4Being able to think strategically about public relations and related fields and build strategies over them.
5Evaluating the contribution of public relation theories and applications to the existing/potential ocassions and problems in the national and international area.
6Being able to decompose the areas where quantitative and qualitative researches are used and determining the areas which necessitate these researches.
7Being able to carry the theoretical knowledge in the field of public relations, to the practical process of public relations which compass of sitiation analysis (swot, pest, pert, …), determining objectives, target audiences, media and techniques, budgeting and evaluation.
8Being able to build up the processes of research, mesearument and evaluation relating to the fundamental steps of PR practices.
9Actualizing the strategic public relations management process, which depends on the analysis of stakeholders from outside and inside the firm.
10Having technical knowledge, skills and experiences about the mediums of public relations and publicity.
11Being able to have analysis using the knowledge, methods and skills on intrapersonal communiation, interpersonal comunication and corporate communication and denoting these in verbal, non-verbal and written forms.
12Being aware of the ethics of public relations occupation and having the consciousness of occupational responsibility.
13Offering occupational views and solutions by following the national and international cultural and contemporary approaches, problems and events.
14Creating the sustainable development and quality insight oriented to concepts such as; corporate communication, reputation, value, social responsibility, perception, ect.
15Having skills on the subjects such as; implementing teamworks within the discipline and interdisciplinary, being able to develop professional relation networks, acting independently, act in one’s own initiative, being creative, continuous learning, personal development, image management, relationship management, ect. by continuingly following the developments in science, technology and contemporary issues.
16Making decisions according to the dynamics of the business life, denoting ideas plainly, managing emotions, getting over complications, presenting infront of a community, managing meetings, creating awareness on dissimilarities and developing the empatic intelligence.
